Question 10

What is the best time (muhurtam) for Gruhapravesham?

Auspicious dates are determined based on the Hindu calendar (Panchang). Pandit Sridhar will help you identify the best muhurtam based on your family's birth stars and the available dates.

Question 11

What is a Homam and how is it different from a Puja?

Accepted Answer

A Homam (or Havan) is a Vedic fire ritual where offerings are made directly into a sacred fire (homa kund) while chanting mantras. A Puja involves worship of a deity through offerings, flowers, and prayers without a fire. Homams are considered more powerful for specific intentions.

Question 12

What space is needed to perform a Homam at home?

Accepted Answer

A clear area of approximately 8x8 feet is needed for the homa kund setup. The area should be well-ventilated as the fire produces smoke. An outdoor space or a room with good airflow is ideal.

Question 13

Which Homam is best for health and longevity?

Accepted Answer

Ayushya Homam is specifically performed for health, longevity, and protection from illness. Dhanvantri Homam is recommended for healing and recovery. Pandit Sridhar can advise the most suitable ritual based on your needs.

Question 14

How many people can attend a Homam?

Accepted Answer

There is no strict limit. Family and close friends are welcome to attend and receive blessings. For larger gatherings, please inform us in advance so the setup can be arranged accordingly.

Question 15

What is Rudrabhishekam and who should perform it?

Accepted Answer

Rudrabhishekam is a sacred ritual of bathing the Shiva Lingam with milk, honey, water, and other holy substances while chanting the Sri Rudram. It is recommended for peace, health, removal of negative energies, and spiritual growth. Anyone seeking Lord Shiva's blessings can perform it.

Question 16

What is the difference between Laghunyasam and Mahanyasam Rudrabhishekam?

Accepted Answer

Laghunyasam is a shorter, simplified form suitable for regular observances. Mahanyasam is the complete, extended version with more elaborate chanting and is considered more powerful. Pandit Sridhar will recommend the appropriate form based on your purpose.

Question 17

What do I need to arrange for Satyanarayana Vratam?

You will need panchamrut (milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar), fruits, flowers, betel leaves, coconut, and prasad ingredients (usually semolina/rava for the sheera). A full preparation list is provided after booking.

Question 18

Can Satyanarayana Vratam be performed on any day?

Traditionally it is performed on Purnima (full moon day), Ekadashi, or on auspicious occasions like housewarming, birthdays, or anniversaries. Pandit Sridhar can advise on the most suitable date for your situation.

Question 23

What is the purpose of Shraddham and Thithi rituals?

Question 24

When should Thithi (death anniversary) be performed?

Accepted Answer

Thithi is performed on the lunar date (tithi) corresponding to the day of the ancestor's passing, every year. Pandit Sridhar will help you identify the correct tithi based on the date of passing and the Hindu calendar.

Question 25

What is the difference between Hiranya Shraddham and Parvana Shraddham?
